The Berlin-based physicochemist Walther Nernst designs a hydrogen liquefier sometime around 1910 to examine the behavior of specific heat at very low temperatures. His investigations are in line with the theoretical predictions which Einstein had made with the help of the quantum hypothesis. Nernst's results turn him into an early supporter of the quantum theory and a patron of Einstein.
