The first deployment on 22 April 1915 at Ypres in Flanders is supervised personally by Einstein\u2019s colleague and friend, the physical chemist Fritz Haber. Despite his pacifist convictions, Einstein never addresses Haber\u2019s role in the development of such weapons.
