In 1923 Einstein leaves the Committee for Intellectual Cooperation, whose members include Marie Curie and Henri Bergson \u2013 out of disappointment about the League of Nations\u2019 weakness. One year later, however, he returns to his work with the organization, because the idea that intellectual exchange can make a contribution to international understanding is so important to him.
