Lorentz, who was in (neutral) Netherlands, informs Einstein about the preliminary results of the English eclipse expedition; even after the end of the war, direct communication between England and Germany is still practically impossible.

Eddington reports on 12 September that the bending of light passing close to the Sun had been proven, however, the value is not yet very accurate. It isn’t until 6 November that the final value is announced – it is quite concordant with Einstein’s theory, which predicts a value of 1.75 arcseconds.
