Opening Objects

Whenever a table (or other object) needs to be opened - be it just to open it in a block or to add it to a view/another table - a small widget is needed that lets the user select an object (from their own library or foreign objects listed in the 'resources list').

In any case the type of object is chosen before a specific object needs to be picked.

My suggestion for such a widget would contain 2 tabs 'own' and 'foreign', and in each tab feature a select box with the list of all the objects that fit the type and ownership, and a textfield below, that allows entering a filter string for quicker selection in the select box.

If a table is needed that wasn't added to the workspace's resources list yet, it would help the user to provide a hint that objects need to be in the resources list first and add a button that opens a search box.
