In general, the italics in <p> and <mgr> should be tagged separately:

<p it>_some words_] first line

However, the example is in fact an anchored comment, similar to the ones in the Special Instruction for the Conimbricensis text. We will incorporate rules for anchored comments in a future version of the Data Entry Specs. For now, please use this special instruction:

Special Instruction for Pappus (1660)

Anchored comments are marked by <ac> </ac>. They can be recognized by their structure "some words] some words" with a closing ] brace but no opening [ brace. In the Pappus text, the anchor looks like a marginal note consisting of only one character, e.g. "G". Each letter appears twice as marginal note, once in the main text (the main text is in upright shape) and once in the "Commentarius" (the Commentarius is mainly in italics). In the main text, type the anchor like this:

In the "Commentarius", type it inside the <ac> tag. Type the text after the anchor up to the ] between <ac> and </ac>.

Please note: This applies only to marginal notes that are in fact anchors of anchored comments. Type proper marginal notes, e.g. "9. quinti" on the page 0107 that you sent to us, still as marginal note:

<mgr>9. quinti</mgr>.
