This page provides links to the books that are to be transcribed. Each book shows some idiosyncrasies worth noting and considering.
Batch 1: to be sent immediately
- Diversae "Conimbricenses In Universam dialecticam" (1606)
- Book-specific instructions: <tf> tag for separate text flows, <q> and <a> tags for anchored comments. Addendum to version 1.1.2, may or may not be included in later versions of the specs.
- Benedetti, Giovanni Battista de "Diversarvm specvlationvm mathematicarum, et physicarum liber" (1585)
- Should be straightforward, since many examples in the specs are taken from Benedetti.
- Number notation, for example .4.: The rules for punctuation apply, we will see what happens.
- Complex fractions: Probably only in figures
- Euclid "Elementorum Libri XV" (1607)
- text in red: there is a rule for red text in version 1.1.2
- additional ligatures, e.g. _{$p}_: Will be added to version 1.2. For now, we will just see what happens.
Batch 2: can be sent with version 1.1.2
- Aristoteles "Quaestiones Mechanicae" (1585)
- minor problem: skewed text (problem of the digitalization)
- minor problem: swashes. Testcase: See what they make out of swashes.
- minor problem: p.25: some letters are printed badly
- ∫ with tilde, followed by m: {secundu}m
- Casati, Paolo "De igne" (1686)
- index at the end, which is easy to type (no problem with right-aligned page numbers)
- Ghetaldi, Marino "Promotus Archimedis seu de varijs corporum generibus gravitate et magnitudine comparatis" (1603)
- Asterisks as anchors for marginal notes, not repeated in the note itself. Add as a note to the section about marginal notes.
- Mersenne, Marin "Questions physico-mathematiques" (1635)
- French
- Special rule (two lines): type only complete pages, do not pages that are cut off
- Heron Alexandrinus "De gli automati : ouero machine semoventi, libri due" (1589) (change to 1601 edition!)
- p.6: ornamental boundaries
- ij ligature that looks like y with umlaut
- p.92: similar to the anchored comments in the Conimbricenses?
Batch 3: texts with problems
- Agricola, Georg "De re metallica Libri XII" (1561)
- Problem: Fraktur (in the dictionary at the end)
- que-Ligature with tilde: tan{quam}
- Question mark
- Vertical text as a caption
- This caption will be most probably coded as a header/ footer (cf. next page)
- This book also contains an index, which also contains fraktur.
- Problem: Fraktur (in the dictionary at the end)
- Archimedes "Opera Archimedis Syracvsani philosophi et mathematici ingeniosissimi" (1543)
- Problem: bad quality of the digitalization
- minor problem: p.1: scan is cut off at the top
- Archimedes "Opera, quae quidem extant, omnia" (1544)
- Problem: additional Greek ligatures, e.g. {os}
- Problem: mathematical notation, e.g. notation for lines
- Aristoteles "Le mechanice" (1573)
- Problem: bad quality (taken from microfiche, white scratches)
- Special rule: 2 pages per image
- Ghetaldi, Marino "Variorvm problematvm collectio" (1607)
- (Minor?) Problem: additional ligatures, e.g. {$p} in italics
- Heron Alexandrinus "Liber de machinis bellicis, necnon liber de geodaesia Mechanici liber de machinis bellicis, necnon liber de geodaesia" (1572)
- Problem: the original is printed badly, e.g. p.8

- Problem: as in Piccolomini, e.g. left-aligned text and right-aligned text in the same line, this time in the index: type index as table?
- Block quotations which are not separate paragraphs
- {us} ligature: type as 9 in superscript?
