1. First Analysis

  • handwritten insertion into figures
  • Text which has been struck through.
  • Example of different uses of the <hd> tag. Suggestion:
    <p it>
    ...
    hypethros. Horum exprimuntur formationes, his
    rationibus. In antis erit ædes, cum habebit in fron-
    <hd><hd>
    te <hd st>antas</hd> parietum, qui <hd st>cellam</hd> circ\~ucludunt, & inter
    antas in medio col\~unas duas $upra\~q; fa$tigium $ym-
    metria ea collocatum, quæ in hoc libro fuerit per$cri-
    <hd>
    pta. Huius autem exemplar erit ad tres fortunas, ex
    <hd>
    tribus, quod e$t proxime portam collinam.
    </p>

  • Table, image or both? We will wait and see what they do.

Ligatures

Special instructions for {tur} and {us}, which will also be included in the DESpecs 2.1. No instruction for abbreviated words such as r\~one (ratione) and a\~ut (autem).

Difficulties

The text contains also words which have been struck through by hand. The typed text of Bacon 1670 shows that underlines by hand have been ignored (because the specs say that horizontal lines are not to be typed?). However, as these marks might prove useful lateron, they should be noted by the data entry. A tag different from the <hd> has been suggested which deals mainly with handwritten text and drawings outside the text body.

Special Instructions

If you can identify words in the text which have been underlined or struck through by hand, type them as <hd ul>word</hd>.
