1 Introduction

This is the first meeting of the XML Schema working group.

1.1 Goal

The goal of this working group is establishing an XML Schema for the digitized books.

2 XML Schema

For the further processing of the texts, an XML Schema is needed against which the XML documents can be validated.

2.1 Using RELAX NG as language

RELAX NG is a schema language for XML which has a simpler syntax and is more powerful than XML Schema.

2.2 Introduction to RELAX NG

For the rest of the meeting, MDH introduced the basic features of RELAX NG and how it relates to DTDs and XML Schema.

The definition of elements and the modularity of the system was shown by looking at the Schema for XHTML (Schema-Tarball)

3 Next steps

As a next step WS and KT are going to construct a basic structure for the ECHO documents based on a preliminary version.

This structure should take care of the metadata and the body of the text down to the level of div.
